I am not going to sit here and act like losing Gordon Hayward to a gruesome leg injury for the season isn’t hurting the Celtics. It was a terrible injury and the Celtics lost one of the best two way win players in the game. But even without Hayward, this Celtics team is legit.
Down 55-37 at the half, the Celtics were simply a different basketball team in the second half outscoring the Thunder 64-39 to win 101-94. In the second half Kyrie put up 22 and Horford scored 17. They were awesome and the rest of the team did tough basketball to earn the win. The Celtics are now 4-1 on the road 7-2 on the year. Brad Stevens is on another level as a basketball coach.
I wrote earlier how I was high on the Thunder for this season and that they would put up a fight in the Western Conference Finals come June. It is WAY too early for me to start taking that back; this team still needs time to gel and find their identity plus I doubt Carmelo will keep scoring 10 points on 17 shots in 33 minutes like he did in last nights loss. Yes he is old, slow and bad at defense but he still has the ability to be an elite scorer as his 21 a night through 8 games proves.
Regardless of what happens in the West, this Celtics team is a force to be reckoned with. With a hard fought, 101-94 come from behind win in Oklahoma City on ESPN the Celtics proved this to be true. They are going to continue to do so because Brad Stevens has all the pieces he needs to compete with anyone in the league.
