Post Thanksgiving Saturday means there is a lot of couch to be sat on and plenty of leftovers to be eaten. Thankfully, Rivalry Weekend is in full swing and there is a full slate of top-notch ballgames to help us enjoy the day. It is one of the best couch and gambling days of the season. With Miami already going down this week, more chaos is likely to ensue. Lets go.
We’ll start with one of the best rivalries in sports going down at Noon in the Big House. It’s Ohio State and Michigan. The 9-2 Buckeyes have a very real chance at backing into the College football playoff with two wins to close out their season. Michigan on the other hand comes into this game unranked and in shambles after an ugly loss to Wisconsin last week.
There is a wide gap in talent between these two teams, mainly on the offensive side of the ball. Ohio State is clearly the better team, with an offensive capable of running circles around Michigan’s offense. That said, it is never easy to take a team laying double digit points in a rivalry game with this much on the line. While OSU is the only team playing for a title shot, this game can save UM’s season. Players on both sides have this game circled on their schedules when they select their respective schools.
That said, Michigan is not getting good enough play at the quarterback position to scare Ohio State. Their defense and the crowd may keep them in it for a while, but I don’t think they can keep up for 60 minutes. Ohio State is on a mission, and they ran through Michigan State the last time I picked against them. I think they go into the Big House and win by 2 TDs. Ohio State 35 Michigan 21
Georgia -10.5 @ Georgia Tech
Another heated rivalry going down in the deep south, with the Dogs on the road at Tech. At #7, UGA still has a shot at reaching the playoff with a couple of wins, while GT needs a win just to become bowl eligible. Another double digit home dog, but another talent mismatch on the field. Both of these teams can run the ball, but only one of them can stop the run. Nick Chubb could have a big day, and I think UGA runs all over a struggling Yellow Jacket D. UGA 28 Georgia Tech 14
Alabama -5 @ Auburn
Hands down the biggest and best game of the weekend, is the Iron Bowl. Both Bama and Auburn are playing for a national title shot, and the winner of this game will see Georgia in the SEC title game. It doesn’t get any bigger than this. Two weeks after knocking off previously #1 UGA, Auburn has another shot against unanimous #1 Alabama. At home, the Tigers are catching 5 points and I am really tempted to take them to win the game outright.
Auburn is a tough team, especially at home, where they have not lost this year. Their offense is balanced and their Defense is good. Bama’s D is tougher than anybody, but they are banged up with some injuries at the Linebacker Spot. We have seen some crazy finishes in this rivalry, and could have another one in store Saturday. This is such a tight matchup and a 5 point spread seems like it could be too high.
All of that said, betting against Alabama is like betting against the Patriots. It is the surest way to toss your money away. Impossible for me too go against Saban in a game of this magnitude and impossible to see Alabama not being a part of the SEC title game. Im rolling with the Tide by a TD.
